Nasal polyps treatment

Nasal polyps are benign, soft growths of the nasal or sinus lining that can cause nasal blockage, reduced sense of smell, recurrent infections and impaired breathing. Treatment aims to reduce inflammation, relieve symptoms and, when necessary, remove polyps using safe, minimally invasive techniques to restore nasal function and quality of life.

Treatments Offered

We provide evidence-based medical and surgical options tailored to the severity of disease:

  • Medical Management: Topical intranasal corticosteroids, short courses of oral steroids when indicated, saline irrigations and adjunctive therapies to reduce inflammation.

  • Allergy & Inflammation Control: Allergy testing, targeted medical therapy and immunotherapy guidance for patients with allergic contributors.

  • Endoscopic Polypectomy: Minimally invasive endoscopic removal of polyps to clear nasal passages while preserving normal mucosa.

  • Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS): Performed when polyps are extensive or associated with chronic sinus disease to improve drainage and reduce recurrence.

  • Biologic Therapy (when indicated): Referral and coordination for monoclonal antibody treatments in selected patients with severe, recurrent polyposis not responsive to conventional therapy.

  • Postoperative Care & Maintenance: Long-term nasal steroid therapy, saline rinses and regular follow-up to monitor and reduce recurrence.

Symptoms & Causes

Consider evaluation for nasal polyps if you experience:

  • Chronic nasal blockage or persistent congestion

  • Reduced or lost sense of smell (hyposmia/anosmia)

  • Recurrent sinus infections, facial pressure or post-nasal drip

  • Snoring or breathing difficulty related to nasal obstruction

Nasal polyps are commonly associated with chronic rhinosinusitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease and other inflammatory conditions. Nasal endoscopy and CT imaging guide diagnosis and personalised treatment planning.

Prevention & Long-term Management

To reduce recurrence and maintain nasal health, we recommend:

  • Regular saline nasal irrigations to clear mucus and reduce inflammation

  • Consistent use of prescribed intranasal steroid sprays to control mucosal inflammation

  • Managing underlying allergies or asthma in coordination with specialists

  • Timely ENT follow-up after surgery to monitor healing and intervene early if polyps recur

  • Discussing advanced therapies, including biologics, for recurrent or severe cases not responding to standard care
